Growing Our Impact, Expanding Opportunities

At Greater Than, we’re dedicated to helping students explore their passions, plan for their futures, and build the skills they need to thrive. This spring, our College & Career programming is in full swing, and we’re also welcoming a new team member to support students at Alder!

Spotlight: College & Career Club at H.B. Lee

Each week, 32 students participate in the after-school College & Career Club at H.B. Lee, where they explore different career paths and develop essential life skills. Students use Reality Check, a program that helps them understand budgeting, salaries, and expenses associated with different careers. They’re also preparing for H.B. Lee’s College & Career Day on April 23rd, where each student will present on a career of interest. Whenever possible, we’re connecting students directly with professionals in their chosen fields, giving them real-world insights and inspiration!

Nancy, one of our Student Success Specialists at Reynolds High School, visits H.B. Lee’s College & Career Club to help 8th graders prepare for the transition to high school. Students had the opportunity to ask questions, gain insights, and build confidence for their next big step!

Recent & Upcoming College & Career Experiences

Alder Career Day – Earlier this month, students met professionals from a variety of industries, including architecture, music, medicine, and marketing.

College & Career Visits – Students will soon tour Vernier Science, Mt. Hood Community College, Portland State University, Lewis & Clark College, and more to explore career and post-secondary options.

Lincoln Street Elementary’s College & Career Day – April 18th – This event will introduce younger students to a world of college and career possibilities.

Support Future Leaders

Welcome, Benjah Ishimwe!

We’re excited to introduce Benjamin Ishimwe, our new Student Success Specialist at Alder Elementary!

"Hi everyone! My name is Benjamin Ishimwe, but I go by Benjah. I was born and raised in Rwanda and moved to Oregon in 2017. I’m the youngest of seven siblings, and growing up in a big family taught me the importance of community, support, and resilience. My passion for helping others, especially in underserved communities, drives me, and I’m excited to step into this role at Alder to support and empower students. In my free time, I enjoy playing and watching basketball, spending time with friends, and cooking. I look forward to connecting with all of you and working together to make a meaningful impact!"
