The school year has come to a close, and what a year it has been. Across our schools, students reached milestones that reflect months, and in many cases years, of hard work, growth, and support from the Greater Than community.

Celebrating Promotions and Milestones

This spring, we had the joy of celebrating Kindergarten and 5th grade promotions, 8th grade promotion, and high school graduation with our students and families. Watching students cross these thresholds, dressed up, beaming, and surrounded by the people who love them, is one of the most meaningful parts of this work.

For many of our students, these moments carry extra weight. They represent not just academic progress, but resilience, persistence, and the power of a community that refuses to let students fall through the cracks.

We are so proud of every student who reached a milestone this spring, and we are grateful to the educators, families, and partners who made it possible.

Senior Trip: A Well-Earned Celebration

Before closing the chapter on their high school years, Greater Than seniors embarked on their annual Senior Trip. It was a chance to celebrate everything they have accomplished together before stepping into what comes next.

Greater Than's support does not end at graduation. Our postsecondary team will continue working alongside graduates as they navigate college enrollment, financial aid, and the transitions ahead.

Board Milestones

At our June 17 Board Meeting, we celebrated two incredible leaders who each dedicated a decade of service to Greater Than.

Polly Reid served as Board Chair during a pivotal period in Greater Than's history, helping guide the organization through significant growth and transition. Dr. Bukhosi Dube served as Chair of our Board Equity Committee, bringing vision and commitment to our work toward a racially just future for learning. Both Polly and Bukhosi have been valued members of our board for ten years.

We are proud to be an organization where long tenures are common, among both staff and board members. That continuity is a reflection of the deep belief people have in this mission and the communities we serve.

Thank you, Polly and Bukhosi, for everything you have given to Greater Than and to our students and families. You will be missed.

Summer Is Here and So Are We

Greater Than does not take the summer off. As soon as school lets out, our team shifts into summer mode, meeting students and families where they are and making sure no one loses ground over the break.

This summer, look for us in the community through:

Bookmobile — Our weekly summer tradition returns, bringing culturally affirming dual-language books, fresh produce, school supplies, and live performances to apartment complexes and community spaces across Rockwood.

Summer Enrichment and Transition Programs — From math programming to transition support for students moving to a new school in the fall, we are helping students stay connected, confident, and prepared for the year ahead.

Kindergarten Readiness Outreach — Our team is already connecting with families of incoming Kindergartners, making sure they have the tools and information they need for a strong start in the fall.
